Op-ed: End anti-Zionism, he's our best player

DURHA, NC—There’s been a lot discussion on campus about anti-zionism. Frankly, I’m horrified by the idea. To all the anti-zionists out there, are you aware that Zion Williamson is Duke Basketball’s best player?

Let’s get some facts straight about zionism, the movement to support our star player Zion Williamson. This year, Zion was named ACC Player of the Year and ACC Rookie of the Year. He’s projected to be the first pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. After seeing his performance for the Blue Devils, how could you be oppose Zion?

Sure, Tre Jones and RJ Barrett are great. But even if you think they’re better players than Zion, that shouldn’t mean you’re against Zion. The protests on campus seem disproportionate to who Zion really is. It’s almost as if related ideas are being conflated with another in a way that’s damaging to both sides. In this case, obviously, the two sides are Zionists and Barrettists.

We need to have better campus discourse about Zion and how to express our opinions about the Duke Men’s Basketball team. Let’s come together as a campus and end the hate.

Update: It seems that I have completely misunderstood what zionism is, and apologize for the confusion. A lot of people understandably have really strong opinions on this issue. I don’t have a take on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
